Student Success Stories


Monica Ochola, grad student in special education, won her second award this semester at the 20th Annual Student Research and Creative Endeavor Symposium for her research on Faculty Awareness of Accommodations for Students with Disabilities. She won 3rd prize and a cash award, competing with other student researchers from a variety of disciplines. Earlier this month, Monica also won first prize and a cash award for the same research poster presentation at the Science and Society at IPFW symposium. We are proud of you, Monica!

Welcome to the Department of Professional Studies. We are the largest graduate department on campus, featuring graduate programs in Counselor Education, Educational Leadership, and Special Education. Our department is home to a dedicated group of faculty members who prioritize the development of competent and compassionate professionals.

Highly-effective educational leaders are essential for high-performance learning environments.  Our leadership program prepares educators to be Indiana licensed building-level leaders that can meet the complex demands of the modern principalship and transform learning environments for P-12 teachers, students, and the communities they serve.

Our special education program offers flexible options of traditional, hybrid, and select online courses coordinated with local school schedules. Our courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced faculty with collectively over 30 years of P-12 teaching and current K-12 special education teachers who bring a variety of teaching styles and approaches to the classroom with the goal to develop a community of compassionate teachers.
